People have been saying for some time that I should do a writeup of the Clio build, this sort of thing usually appears on forums, but its 2020 and blogs are all the range, so why not join the craze!
The first few posts are going to be somewhat of a retrospective blog, a backfill if you will. In addition each post may be quite wordy, theres lots of info to get in!
Lots has happened to the car we use/see now since it was purchased as a track toy/road car. The previous owner had already ticked most of the required boxes for a fun car; kw coilovers, gripper diff, a couple of powerflex bushes here and there and rolling on some cup racer 17x8j wheels.
The interior was sparse, black seats removed and two sparco buckets sat upfront. Cocoon yourself in the seats and hit the start button.......... It was loud! The cup racer style exhaust ensured that the ‘spirited’ drive home resulted in a mild case of tinnitus for a few hours after!
The main aim of the Clio originally was for some trackday fun, with one eye on some sort of competition, my newage blobeye STI making way for the Clio.
Having already been shown a clean pair of heels on track by other clios, it was clear that the Clio was a competent machine!
Whilst the Scooby was a great car, I simply didn't have the budget to be competitive in the Scooby/evo world, the Clio being a 'cheeper' option.......... looking back now thats also pretty laughable!
As any car enthusiast will agree the phrases 'I'm just going to have fun' 'just run it as it is' 'it doesn't need changing anymore' 'it doesn't need that set of cams.....' are all said just to placate the people around you whilst you hatch your master plan!
Needless to say I was no different...........
I quickly justified the the car 'needed' a rollcage, purely for safety of course! so an order was placed with mark fish motorsport for a safety devices bolt in rollcage, the first step of the addiction!
